Mississippi auctioneers joined fellow auctioneers from across the world to attend the 67th National Auctioneers Association’s (NAA) 67th International Auctioneers Conference and Show and education courses in Grand Rapids, Michigan July 17-23, 2016.
Among the hundreds of professionals who made the trip, Mississippi Auctioneers Association (MAA) members Benny & Ruthie Taylor, Grenada; William L. Head, Madison; and Courtney Jo Weaver, Forest, attended the week long event. Auction industry professionals gather each year to hear world class speakers, gain invaluable education, attend the world’s largest auction trade show, attend and compete in International Auctioneers Championships and marketing competitions, network with hundreds of auction professionals, and to participate in elections and, of course, auctions.
Among the dozens of educational seminars available, designation courses are offered to auction professionals wanting to enhance credibility in specialized fields. Head and Weaver each completed accreditation courses in Auction Marketing Management and Accredited Auctioneer of Real Estate, respectfully. Each designation involves classroom hours, special reports of auction events, passing an exam, and continuing education.
Along with industry-leading education, the annual Conference and Show also features exciting auction competitions. Each year, the International Auctioneer Championship (IAC) competition draws the most skilled and talented auctioneers from all corners of the globe to compete for a shot at being named the world’s top male and female bid callers. Of the 94 contestants, TJ Freije of Clayton, Indiana and Beth Rose of Maumee, Ohio took home the top honors.
